Installing and Changing the Batteries In Your Lutron Roller Shade

Alkaline batteries are recommended for D-cell Lutron battery-powered shades. Lutron recommends the use of Duracell® Coppertop alkaline D-size batteries.

For more information about optimizing battery life in Lutron shades, please refer to Optimizing Battery Life in Lutron Shades, Application Note #561.

Before installing or changing the batteries in your shades, you will need to put your shade into service position. To put the shade in service position, and/or remove the shade, refer to the article Putting your Shade into Service Position and Close Quarters Installations

Note for close-quarters installations: If you do not have enough room to fully remove the battery tray due to a nearby wall or other obstruction, you will need to remove the shade to install or change the batteries.

Once your shade is into service position, click an option below for step-by-step instructions.

Installing Batteries into your Shade

Removing the Battery Tray and Attaching the Left Shade Bracket

Step 1: To remove the battery tray from the shade drive, pinch the battery tray release and pull the tray all the way out of the shade.

Step 2: Position the left shade bracket, with the rails facing away from the assembled shade, and press it onto the shade drive, engaging the retaining tabs at the top and bottom.

Installing the Batteries

Step 1: Define which battery tray is in your shade:

Type A (5 D-Cell Batteries)

 Type B (4 D-Cell Batteries)

Step 2: Load fresh D-cell alkaline batteries into the battery tray.

Note: If there is enough room when your shade is mounted, the battery tray maybe installed after hanging the shade.

Step 3: Orient the loaded battery tray so that the UP arrow points toward the ceiling.

Note: Clearance required to nearest wall or other obstructions to allow full battery tray access without removing shade.

Step 4: With the open side facing up, insert the battery tray into the shade drive with the pointed end going into the drive opening.

Step 5: Slide the battery tray in until fully seated in the shade. The shade will power up, indicated by the shade button flashing RED/GREEN.
