Can I control different types of light bulbs on the same dimmer?
Before you start

- Identify the type of light bulbs you are planning to use (Examples: Incandescent, Halogen, LED, etc.)
- Identify the model number of the dimmer you want to use or already have (Model number can normally be found on the side of the dimmer or on the package it came in)
If the dimmer is rated to control
- Incandescent or Halogen lights only
Then it can control Only Incandescent or Halogen bulbs can be used.
If the dimmer is rated to control
- LED lights
Then it can also control Incandescent or Halogen bulbs.
- For LED compatibility, use the Lutron LED compatibility tool
If the dimmer is rated to control
- ELV (Electronic Low Voltage) Lights
Then it can also control
- Dimmers rated to control electronic low voltage (ELV) lights can also be used to control incandescent and halogen lights
- Dimmers rated to control ELV lights can also be used to control some LED's.

If the dimmer is rated to control
- MLV (Magnetic Low Voltage) Lights
Then it can also control
- Dimmers rated to control magnetic low voltage (MLV) lights can also be used to control incandescent and halogen lights.
- Dimmers rated to control MLV light can also be used to control some LED's.
