RadioRA 3 Sunnata Dimmer Switch Not Activating
This article details the troubleshooting procedures for RadioRA 3 Sunnata device activation. Review the RA3 Clear Connect Type X Activation Guide for step-by-step device activation instructions.
RadioRA 3 Sunnata devices may fail to activate due to one or more of the following:
- Nearby 2.4 GHz wireless signal interference.
- Running an old version of the Lutron App (Apple App Store / Google Play Store)
- The project file was created using an old version of Lutron Designer.
- Lutron Designer is available for download in myLutron by navigating to Resources > Technical Information > Design Software. (Software access requires a myLutron account and completion of Radio RA3 training plan)
- The RadioRA 3 Processor has not been activated, is not running the latest firmware, or an incorrect processer has been selected for activation.
- The model number of the installed device does not match the model of the programmed device in Designer.
- A sync has not been completed in the Designer software.
Additionally, follow the steps in this guide if your RA3 Sunnata device is slowly blinking but will not activate, or if the device will not reactivate after a recent factory reset.
Troubleshooting Sunnata Type X Devices Not Activating
1. Toggle your smartphone/tablet’s Bluetooth connection off, wait 10 seconds, and then toggle it back on from your device.
2. Ensure all other 2.4GHz wireless devices are more than 5 feet (1.5m) away from the RadioRA 3 processor(s). This includes Wi-Fi routers, wireless access points, wireless extenders, and non-Lutron smart devices.
3. Ensure the latest version of the Lutron app is installed on your smartphone/tablet.
4. Factory reset the Sunnata device(s) you are attempting to activate. After a successful reset attempt activation again.
Follow the steps below to reset a Sunnata dimmer or switch:
A. Quickly tap the tapswitch at least three times on the control. Do not release after the third tap.
B. Keep the tapswitch pressed on the third tap (for ~3 seconds) until the LED on the dimmer starts to scroll up and down quickly, or the LED on the switch flashes quickly.
C. Immediately release the tapswitch and quickly tap the tapswitch at least three times again. The LED on the dimmer will scroll up and down slowly. The LED on the switch will flash slowly. The control has now been returned to its factory settings and needs to be reprogrammed into a system.
Note: Refer to the application note Returning Clear Connect System Devices to Factory Default for additional device reset instructions.
5. Try a different smartphone/tablet if available. If a different smart device is unavailable, uninstall and reinstall the Lutron app on your current device.
6. Confirm the model number of the device you are activating matches the model number programmed in Designer. A model number mismatch may result in improper behavior of the installed device.
Physical device model number:
The model number of the switch or dimmer is printed on a label on the side of the device. Model numbers typically begin with two to four letters followed by a dash then additional letters/numbers.
Note: The model number in the image is not a RadioRA 3 device.
Locating model numbers in Lutron Designer:
Device model numbers are located in the design tab under Device Locations. Click to expand a specific location in Designer to reveal that location's device list.
7. Ensure Clear Connect Type X devices are within wireless range. Review the system range rules below:
Important: Transferring too early can cause the transfer to fail. Wait 15 minutes after activating the last Clear Connect Type X device before completing a transfer.
