What is activation?

In RadioRA 3 and HomeWorks QSX systems, activating devices is the process of associating a physical device's serial number with a virtual representation of a device created in Lutron Designer. Different types of devices have different requirements for activating because of the limitations of their physical hardware. For example, Clear Connect Type-X devices are activated over bluetooth, which means that they have specific range requirements to activate.

Therefore, the device activation process is different depending on the type of device you are activating. Reference the following resources to activate the different devices in your system:

  1. Clear Connect Type-X device activation
  2. Clear Connect Type-A device activation via Lutron Designer
  3. Clear Connect Type-A device activation via the Lutron app

Changing Device Channel

Clear Connect Type-A (CCA) devices communicate over radio frequencies that are customizable via Lutron Designer to avoid noise on other frequencies. If your processor is set to communicate on a different CCA channel than the default, then all devices assigned to that processor need their channel to be changed to match the processor. Most devices will automatically have their channel updated when the processor channel is changed. However, some devices, called transmit-only devices like Pico controls or occupancy sensors, must be manually changed to match the processor channel.

Reference the Change CCA Device Channel via the Lutron App article for more information on how to change the channel of transmit-only devices.
