How to Create a Multi-System Place from Two, or More, Existing Connect Places
Often you may need multiple systems in the same place. This article describes how to move one system into another Place when both Places already exist.
For information on how to split a single System into two or more Systems, review the knowledge article How Do I Split a Single System or Place into Multiple?
In the example scenario throughout this article, we will keep "Athena Test Project" as the only Place, and move the system from "Athena Test Project - Split System" into it.
Before You Begin
Some reminders about Systems and Places before you get started:
- Every Place contains at least one system
- When a Place contains only one system, the system is hidden from view to simplify the user experience.
- For a Place with a single system, the name of the Place and the System are the same.
- Once a System is moved from one Place to another, all previous history (including previously exported files) for the moved system is removed and the history starts over after the move.
Note: The history for system(s) already in the destination Place remains unchanged.
Pick the Destination Place
Determine which of the existing Places will be the destination Place (where we will move our other system(s) to). In this example, "Athena Test Project - Floor 1" will be our destination Place.
Now that the destination Place has been selected we will move the second system ("Athena Test Project - Floor 2") into the destination Place.
Move the Second System into the Destination Place
Follow the steps below to move a system into the destination Place:
- Open the System that you wish to move (in our example "Athena Test Project - Floor 2").
- Select Tools > Move System from the dropdown menu.
- Select the destination Place from the Move System prompt and enter a unique name for the System Name. Click Apply when done.
Note: The system name can remain the same (as in our example) or be renamed to something appropriate for the system in its new Place.
The destination Place now has two systems. The initial system, with the same name as the Place, and the new system that was moved from its original Place. Repeat the steps above for each system (in every other place) you wish to move into the destination Place.
Note: If the Place that contained the moved system ("Athena Test Project - Floor 2" in our example) only contained a single system, then it will be archived and will no longer show up in your places list. Note in the picture how there are now 9 places.
Rename the Destination Place (If Necessary)
If appropriate, and to avoid potential confusion, rename the Destination Place with a name appropriate for the multi-system place it has become.
In our example, we have chosen "Athena Test Project - Floor 1" as our destination place. Now that the Place contains both the first and second floors, the existing name is inappropriate for the Place. We should rename it to simply say "Athena Test Project".
There are two methods to rename a place using Lutron Designer:
Connect Places View in Lutron Designer
- Double-click on the name of the place you wish to rename to edit it.
- Enter the desired new name (in our example we chose "Athena Test Project")
Open Project View in Lutron Designer
- Select Tools > Project Information and click Rename this Place (or Rename this Project depending on the project configuration).
- Enter the desired new name (in our example we chose "Athena Test Project").
- Save and Close the Destination Place
Congratulations! You have created a multi-system Place from two existing Places. You should now see a single Place and two (or more) Systems inside that Place, all labeled with appropriate names.
How to Change the Name of a System
There are two ways to change the name of a system in a multi-system Place. One is directly in the Connect Places view in Lutron Designer, the other is using the Lutron App in Pro Installer Mode.
Connect Places view in Lutron Designer
- Click the down carat to expand the Place and reveal all systems within that Place.
- Double-click on the name of the place you wish to rename to edit it.
- Enter the desired new name (in our example we chose "Athena Test Project").
Pro Installer Mode within the Lutron App
This method only works once the processors in the system have been activated and have connected to the Lutron Connect Cloud:
- Open the Lutron App in Pro Installer mode on an iOS or Android device.
- Tap "RadioRA 3/ HomeWorks / Athena" (Displayed available systems may vary based on what systems you have access to).
- Select the Place.
- Tap the three dots next to the system you wish to edit and choose Rename.
- Rename the System and tap Enter.
