Creating a template project for RA3 and QSX
Templates may be used as an efficient method to get new projects up and running with pre-saved devices and programming information. Below is a best practice guide for creating a template. Templates may be created from a new project or an existing project with a few extra steps.
Note: It is very important you follow these steps, otherwise you may have multiple Projects sharing one Place.
- Creating a Template from a Project will create a new Place for it to use
- This will ensure updates to one Project made from a template will not affect another project from the same template
- Do not Export to File multiple copies of a project and work on them as separate projects
- They will all share the same Place and updates to one will then affect the others.
- This makes it extremely difficult to recover files, and all devices will need to be reactivated to separate them from each other.
Creating a New Template:
-
Create or open a Place/Project for template use.
-
Set up custom devices in the Design Toolbox, create common scenes, preferred colors, common rooms and areas, etc.
-
Save your project to the Cloud by selecting File > Save. This will be your 'Base' file for future templates.
- If this is a new project, we'd recommend naming this Project something regarding 'Base' or 'Template' for ease of search later.
- I.E. If these systems are for Apartments at 123 Apartment Ave, we'd recommend naming it 123 Apartment Ave Template
- If this is a new project, we'd recommend naming this Project something regarding 'Base' or 'Template' for ease of search later.
-
Select Tools > Project Information > Create a new project from template.
- This will make a duplicate of the project with No Activation Information with its own Place.
- It's Design, Link Assignment, Programming, and Device/Zone Names will be copied over.
-
In the confirmation window, enter a new Project Name. This will also act as the new Place Name in your Places menu.
-
The new Project will be automatically saved to the Cloud.
-
You may now activate devices to this new Project.
Creating more Projects off this Template
-
Open the 'Base' template Place.
-
Repeat Step 4 from above
