Overview

The Lumaris Tunable White  Tape Lights offer a simple and seamless way to add tunable white accent lighting to a home. They are a Clear Connect Type-X device consisting of 3 main parts: The power supplywireless controller, and tape light. Each wireless controller is capable of controlling up to 16ft of the Lumaris tape light, and there are various ways to wire and install each unit.

There are two variations of the Lumaris:

  • Soft White provides a tunable white with a temperature range between 1800K - 3000K
  • Daylight provides a tunable white with a temperature range between 2500K - 5000K

For more information on their detailed specifications, please see the Lumaris Specification Sheet

Features

The Lumaris Tunable White Tape Lights have a variety of ways to control intensity and color temperature:
  • Natural Show (Homeworks QSX) or Day/Night Mode (RadioRA 3)
  • Lutron App for manual adjustment
  • Presets triggered via Keypad buttons

Lumaris also has built in protection against hardware issues such as the following:
  • Short Circuit Protection
    • When the Lumaris module detects a short on the output, it will turn the load off and then check twice after to see if the short cleared.
  • Overload Protection
    • When the Lumaris module detects an overload (more than 16ft of tape connected a single module), it will turn the load off and then to 0.1% until it is corrected.
  • Overvoltage Protection
    • The Lumaris module is able to detect when a 'too high' voltage (anything greater than the nominal 24V) is supplied. It will turn the load off until the overvoltage clears.
  • For more information on these issues, please see the Troubleshooting section

For flexible installation, the tape can also be cut and reconnected using the included Tape-to-Wire adapters for curves and corners.

Each wireless controller can be powered via either an individual power supply or ran back to a power interface (up to 3 controllers per panel).

Model Numbers

Lumaris is compatible with both RadioRA 3 and Homeworks QSX, however there are separate models for the kits and wireless controllers for their respective systems.

Lumaris Kits and Wireless Controllers

Below is a table of the Lumaris Kits, what they include, and the wireless controllers for each system

Spools of Tape Light

The actual spools of the tape light are universal and can be used on either controller type (QSX or Ra3). This makes it easy to swap if you wish to change the color temperature range. Their model numbers can be located below:

Accessories

Below are the model numbers for the accessories such as replacement Tape-to-Wire adapters, mounting clips for the wireless controllers, and barrel to terminal adapters for the power interface:

Power Supplies

There are 2 variants of power supplies:

  • T120-24DC-15 plug-in power supply
    • This is a single plug-in power supply for a single wireless controller and a maximum of 16ft of tape.
  • LU-PH3-A hardwired power interface
    • This is a power interface capable of powering up to 3 wireless controllers for a total of 48ft of tape between the three (16ft per controller).
    • This will require the LU-BP1 barrel-to-terminal adapter per controller.

FAQs

  • Can I use more than 16ft of tape with a controller?
    • No. The reason for the limitation is to provide consistent and high-quality dimming performance.
  • Can we use a "y" splitter?
    • Yes, the tape is a traditional 3-wire low voltage design, and has the flexibility to be cut, soldered, split, etc...
  • Can we use a third-party tape/driver/wire?
    • No; Lumaris has been tested and designed as a complete end-to-end setup. Using a different tape, power supply, or driver may result in unexpected behavior and will void the warranty on the wireless controller.
  • How do I determine which kind of tape light I have?
    • The kind of tape can be determined by looking at the indicator marked on the tape. At this time, C and D are not used:

  • How do I know if my Lumaris wireless controller is activated in a system?
    • If the LED indicator on the Lumaris controller is off, then the device has been activated. If it is green and never blinking, it has not been activated in the system.
  • Are there any recommendations for extrusions to add a third-party lens?
    • There are many extrusions on the market that will work with Lumaris. Before selecting the extrusion, it’s important to decide up front how the wire-to-tape connector will be installed. If the connector is to be installed inside the extrusion make sure the extrusion is wide enough. The tape is .394in (10mm) wide. The connector is .52in (13mm) wide and .28in (7mm) tall.
  • What if I want to provide 1800K - 5000K?
    • This can be achieved by installing both Soft White and Daylight tapes side by side, then using programming to control which unit is on and what temperature
      • For smooth switching between the two, we recommend having them 'swap' at the same range (i.e. have the Daylight turn on at 2500K when the Soft White reaches 2500K
  • Does the warm dim curve match Finiré downlights or Ketra?
    • The default warm dim curves are the same between Finiré, Ketra, and Lumaris, and thus the performance in a mixed space will reasonably match. That being said Ketra light sources are much more powerful and precise, producing a more accurate representation of the set color temperature.
    • That being said, any 2 devices with different color temperature ranges will not match accurately with each other when warm dimming.
      • As an example, if you have a Lumaris daylight tape (2500K - 5000K) it will have a different warm dim curve compared to a Finiré 2700K (1800K - 2700K). If you set both of these to 50%, they will not match due to the 50% mark on the range of 2500K - 5000K being different from the 50% mark on the 1800K - 2700K
