Natural Light Optimization Expansion to include Roller Shades


Summary

Natural Light Optimization (NLO) was launched in HomeWorks QSX and RadioRA3 in 2019 with the introduction of the horizontal tilt blinds.  The feature launch is CEDIA 2024 shade automation was expanded to include additional shade types including a variety of roller shade types. At this time the software was enhanced to include re-usable shows and programming templates. 

NLO positions Lutron shades throughout the day in response to calculated solar position, giving occupants a comfortable and productive visual environment that reduces glare, saves energy and maximizes the available views.

How to Troubleshoot / Understand the expected Shade Schedule for the day's automation

Viewing the NLO activity schedule using the Lutron Mobile App 

  1. Navigate to the Schedules tab

2. Select Natural Light Optimization

3. The NLO automation can be enabled / disabled on an area by area basis

4. For an area that you would like to view the NLO activity (schedule) click on the View Activity> link

5. This brings up Today's schedule of NLO shade motion activity for the selected area. 
Expanding each event will reveal details on each shade's position due to NLO at that time

Note: This is the NLO timeline does not include manual shade movements due to timeclocks or button presses it is only the automation schedule and can be used to understand what the automation did in the past and what the automation is scheduled to do in the near future. 


How do I disable NLO automation?

In the Mobile app under schedules there is a Row for Natural Light Automation. 

The NLO Shade automation can be disabled for a single area by toggling the slider, or the entire project using the 3 dot menu.
