Integrating Apple HomeKit with the Lutron App - RA3

This article will provide instructions on integrating Apple HomeKit with your Lutron Lighting control system via the Lutron App. It will provide step by step instructions on linking, programming and voice commands associated with Siri voice control.

Section (1):  System Requirements:

Lutron System/Equipment Requirements

  • Hardware:
    • RadioRA 3 
    • RadioRA 2 Select systems with RR-SEL-REP2
    • Caseta systems with L-BDG2 or L-BDGPRO2
  • Software:
    • Lutron App version 2.2 or later

Apple Devices

  • Hardware:
    • Any iPhone, iPad, or iPad touch that is capable of running (and currently running iOS 10.0 or later.
    • Device (smart phone or tablet) being used to connect to the  Lutron App and HomeKit must be connected to the same home network as the Caaseta Bridge (i.e. same IP Address strand). Good example: Bridge IP 192.168.1.18 & Phone IP 192.168.1.20 (first three decimals match).  Bad example: Bridge IP 192.168.1.4 & Phone IP 192.168.16.20 (first three decimals don't match). Last decimal place will always be different and can range from 1 to 254.
  • Remote access HomeKit commands will need a 4th generation Apple TV or an iPad setup as a "HomeKit Hub" on the home network.


Section (2):  How to Link HomeKit to the Lutron App


Step 1:  Activate HomeKit within the Lutron App

  • Lutron App go to Settings and select “HomeKit & Siri”
  • Click on “Add Home”

Step 2:  Link your Lutron Bridge to HomeKit

Scan or Enter the code on the bottom of your Smart Bridge



Step 3:  Confirm Integration

Select Ok when bridge has been added to confirm integration.

Step 4: Selecting Devices to Integrate
In the Lutron app, go to the Settings Menu and Select Homekit and Siri.
Select the lights and shades that are to be controlled by HomeKit. Up to 99 items can be selected.

Step 5:  Open Apple HomeKit App

Open the Apple Home App and you now should be able to see and control your Lutron devices from there.

 

Section (3):  Adding Scenes and Adding People

In the Home App at the home screen you can select + and the the options in the picture below will appear. In HomeKit you are not able to control the Scenes within the Lutron App so you would need to "Add Scenes" here to control with Siri Voice Control. You would also be able to share the HomeKit functionality with another user in the home by selecting "Add People" and sending them the invite.

Section (4):  Using Siri voice commands to control your Lutron System

Below are some common Siri voice commands to control your Lutron Caseta or RA2 Select system.  All of them can be used to control individual devices as named in the Lutron App or the Scenes for the devices you created in the Home App.

"Siri"

“Turn on the lights"
Turns all the lights to 100%

"Turn off the lights."
Turns all the lights to 0%

"Dim the lights to" or "Set the lights to 50%."
Turns all the lights to 50%

"Turn on the upstairs lights."
Turns the lights/room/zone named "Upstairs" to 100%

"Turn off Cole's light."
Turns the lights/room/zone named "Cole" to 0%

"Dim the Overhead lights by 40%"
Dims the lights/zone/room named "Overhead" by 40%

"Brighten the lights"
Brightens all the lights by 25%

"Brighten my Kitchen lights by 15%"
Brightens the load/room/zone named "Kitchen" by 15%

"Turn down the kitchen lights"
Works the same as Brighten

"Dim the lights in the dining room to 50%."
Brightens the load/room/zone named "Kitchen" by 15%

"Turn down the kitchen lights"
Works the same as Brighten

"Dim the lights in the dining room to 50%."
Dims the lights in room/zone named "Dining Room" to 50%

“Are there any lights on?"
Siri will tell you if you’ve left any lights on.

“What’s the level of the lights in the kitchen?”
Siri will tell you what the light level is.

"Open the shades"
Opens the shades to 100%

"Close the shades"
Closes the shades to 100%

"Raise the shades"
Opens the shades to 100%

"Lower the shades"
Closes the shades to 100%
