This article covers the Slim Orientation EDU feature for Lutron Drapery.

This article is expected to take 8 minutes to complete.

What’s new for drapery and why the changes?

  1. Updated railbox and motor bracket to allow electronic drive unit (EDU) to be mounted either in Original Orientation or Slim Orientation within a single-track assembly. The angle of the rail box EDU interface has been updated to 45 degrees off-axial to allow for that flexibility.

Slim EDU Orientation allows the fold-style pleat around the EDU to be smaller, creating a more uniform fold look when the drape is closed.

  1. For fold styles only:
    • Removal of the track plug to allow the second to last ripple to be closer to the first ripple around the EDU.  Track plug is necessary for pinch pleat tracks to add/remove auxiliary carriers but not needed for fold style tracks.
    • Improved master carrier count for certain track lengths. Based on track length, certain fold style track will have extra (no more than 2), the same, or less (no less than 2) auxiliary carriers.

Are there any changes to the EDU?

There is no change to the EDU.

How do I install the EDU in the Slim Orientation?

  • Insert the EDU mounting flange into the railbox by aligning the mounting tabs and drive shafts. Push the EDU into the railbox until the mounting tabs are fully inserted.
  • Rotate the EDU inside the mounting flange and align the desired holes for the securing screw on the motor bracket. Ensure the wire harness is not pinched.
  • Install the securing screw. NOTE: The securing screw is necessary to safely secure the EDU. Verify that it is installed and tightened before operating the drapery.

What products are affected and where can I find more specs about the change?

The following products are affected are below with links to specification.

  • Sivoia QS Drapery Track System (PDF)
  • Alena Drapery Track System  (PDF)
  • Alena-QS and QS Wireless Drapery Track System  (PDF)
  • Drapery Lite System (PDF)

Do I need to configure the track differently to get this feature? When will I receive the updated tracks?

No, Tracks and fabricator kits ordered starting 10/26/2024 will automatically have the updated features.

The new design supports either Original or Slim Orientation. When do I use Slim Orientation?

Slim Orientation is recommended for fold styles to provide a smaller first ripple around EDU. Either Original Orientation or Slim Orientation is recommended for pinch pleat drapery.

What is the compatibility with Recessed Solution for Lutron Drapery?

Recessed Solution for Lutron Drapery works with the updated Lutron Drapery Track in both Slim or Original EDU Orientation.

For tracks with existing railbox design, snip off the pinch pleat hooks before installing into Recessed Solutions.

I have an existing track – can I have the new features?

Existing tracks cannot be converted in the field to allow for the new slim orientation. Replacement tracks can be ordered.

Does the fabric need to change to accommodate this change?

Pleat style fabric panel: no change needed.

Fold style fabric panel: carrier/snap spacing around the EDU remains the same. Due to the change in master carrier count in certain configurations, please verify the master carrier count in the quote. The replacement track may have a different number of master carriers compared to the original configuration. This difference could affect compatibility with your existing fabric panel. Please verify the carrier count to ensure it meets your needs before proceeding with the order. If a replacement track with the same number of carriers as the original is needed, please contact Lutron support for assistance.

I need to order a replacement track. What should I do with my existing panel if the carrier count is different?

Existing fabric panels can still be used, although there will be scenarios that extra carriers will be left unused. Always start attaching the fabric panel from the master carrier end and work towards the EDU/Idler. If there are more auxiliary cars on the replacement track, do not attach pendants and ignore the extra auxiliary cars.
