Customer Owned Material Fabric Process Overview
This article details the review, approval, quoting, and ordering process of a Customer Owned Material (COM) for Lutron motorized or clutch manual roller shades.
Note: Contact manual rollers are not available with Customer Owned Material.
Fabric Validation and Approval Process
- Dealer builds their design in MyProjects using any standard fabric as a placeholder on their roller shades.
- Dealer emails ShadingQuotes@lutron.com (Residential) or commercialshadeest@lutron.com (Commercial) with MyProjects ID# and states that they are looking for shades to be made with their own material.
To review, we will need to know the following information about the fabric:
-
- Manufacturer
- Name/Color/Openness
- Composition
- Roll Width
- Weight
- Thickness
- Website of the requested material
- Lutron Shading Quotes will review fabric specifications with custom engineering to determine if the material is suitable for roller shade use.
Common things that would preclude the fabric from being eligible for manufacture by Lutron include:
-
- Fabric by Conrad or Hartman & Forbes
- 100% Linen or Natural Fiber Fabric
- Fabric intended for Upholstery or Drapery
- If the material specifications are approved, Shading Quotes will generate a COM number/label and provide the dealer with an update. Using the noted COM label, the dealer will send roll width x 1 yard sample of fabric to our production facility for testing purposes.
The COM label will have all the necessary information regarding where to ship, how to package, etc. The package must clearly show the COM on the outside of the box.
Once a Tracking number for the sent sample is available, the dealer will need to send those details within the case email thread as soon as available.
- Once the sample is received, Lutron manufacturing will test the materials to confirm if it is appropriate for roller shade use. Testing includes the ability to cut, weld/seam, and railroading of material.
This process can take up to 2 weeks from receipt of material to approval/rejection.
- Production will confirm with Shading Quotes if the material has been approved/rejected and they will reach out to the dealer to review the next steps.
Custom Quote
If fabric is approved for roller shade use, Shading Quotes will work with custom engineering to facilitate the custom quote. Once the custom quote has been updated, Shading Quotes will return to the dealer for review and sign-off.
Order
The dealer will process the order via MyProjects if the quote specifications are accurate. At this time, the dealer will send the required material to our production facility.
Lead time of order begins upon receipt of PO/order and required yardage of material as this will be noted under “Notes to Customer” with the custom quote that was provided.
