A project's radio frequency (RF) channels should be coordinated before device activation whenever possible. Sometimes, however, there may be a need to change RF channels after devices have been activated to minimize RF interference. This article details the steps to change the RF channel of a HomeWorks or Athena Clear Connect Type X (CCX) device.

The basic steps for manually changing the RF channel of a CCX Device is:

  1. Deactivate the devices from the system
  2. Change the RF channel on the affected processor
  3. Perform a system programming transfer
  4. Re-activate affected CCX devices, sync activation data, and transfer

Deactivate Devices from the System

To change the RF channels of activated Clear Connect Type X (CCX) devices, the devices must first be deactivated from the system.

Navigate to the activate tab in Lutron Designer and click Deactivate for all activated devices on the affected CCX link.

If CCX devices cannot be deactivated from Lutron Designer, due to RF communication issues, deactivate the affected devices using the button press method, or via the Lutron app.

See the Returning Clear Connect System Devices to Factory Default Settings application note for step-by-step instructions.

Change the RF Channel on the Affected Processor

Once all devices have been deactivated, the CCX channel on the processor must be changed in the Lutron Designer software.

  1. Click the design tab and select link assignment from the drop-down menu.
  2. Identify the Clear Connect Type X link on the correct processor.

Set the New RF Channel on the Processor

  1. Set the new RF channel from the RF Channel Number dropdown menu.
  2. Click Done when complete.

Perform a System Programming Transfer

Note: To ensure that devices activate on the new RF channel, a system programming transfer must be performed before attempting to re-activate the affected devices.

Failure to transfer first can result in devices receiving incorrect RF channel information, which will prevent communication with the system, potentially requiring devices to be manually reset again.

Once all affected devices have been reset, perform a system transfer from Lutron Designer to transfer the new RF channel information to the processor.

Re-activate Devices, Sync Activation Data, and Transfer

Now that the new RF channel information has been transferred to the processor and (if applicable) the cloud, the affected CCX devices can be reactivated. Proceed with activation, data synchronization, and system transfer just as you would for an initial system setup.
