How to control an outlet/receptacle with Caseta
Controlling Outlets or Receptacles with Caseta
There are times where you will want to control devices using an outlet or receptacle with your Caseta system. There are specific ways to do this using our Caseta equipment that we will cover in this article.
Note: Our in-wall dimmers and switches are not rated to be wired to a standard outlet/receptacle. Doing so risks damage to the in-wall device, outlet/receptacle, or device connected to the outlet/receptacle.
Controlling a Plug-in light
To control or dim a light or lamp that needs to plug into an outlet, there are two main options in plug-in devices:
Model numbers:
- PD-3PCL
- This is a plug-in Dimmer. This will allow you to dim the light or lamp.
- PD-15OUT-BL
- This is a plug-in Switch. This will allow you to turn the light on or off only; No dimming.
Actions to take:
- Ensure any switches that are controlling the outlet/receptacle are disconnected.
- We will want to ensure the outlet/receptacle are constantly powered.
- The reason for this is to ensure the plug-in device is always receiving power, since it will be controlling the power to the lights.
- If a control is needed to replace the switch, you may use a Pico Remote and the Wallplate Adapter to replace it.
- Plug in one of the two plug-in devices above to control your light.
- Finally, you may pair the Pico Remote to the plug-in device, or you can pair both to the Lutron App using a Caseta Smart Hub.
